On Sundays, we celebrate the Holy Eucharist in Spanish at 5pm at the Misa Alegria.
Misa Alegria, our Spanish-speaking congregation, formed in 2006. Many families and individuals -- including some with very limited spanish-speaking abilities -- are regular worshippers. The service is always followed by a time for refreshments and fellowship.
Misa Alegria is led by The Rev. Sarabeth Goodwin, the Latino Missioner of St. Stephen's Church
For the first three years of the Misa Alegria, the Episcopal Diocese of Washington provided sufficient financial support for Sarabeth to work 20 hours each week, with St. Stephen’s providing in-kind services such as space to worship, an office, and support from parish staff. In July 2008, the Diocese and St. Stephen's agreed on a new plan, with Sarabeth now working full time and the Diocese providing 75 percent of her salary and St. Stephen’s the remaining 25 percent.
The goal of St. Stephen's Summer 2008 fundraising appeal is to raise its portion of Sarabeth's salary. If you'd like to make a donation for the Misa Alegria and the Rev. Sarabeth Goodwin, please click on this button:

Misa Alegria marks many traditional Latino holidays, such as the Day of the Dead. Below are photos of the "ofrenda" constructed for the 2007 Day of the Dead celebration.
